Lynchburg Public Library

Nature Backpacks and More

Did you know that you can check out more than just books and DVDs from the library? That’s right! We have other fun things you can check out that will help you explore your world.

Nature Backpacks

Each backpack comes with nature guides to animals and plants, a magnifying glass, discovery activities, port-a-bug field observation container and a parking pass/free entrance to Virginia state parks. Backpacks can be placed on hold, but can only be checked out at the Main Library. Enjoy two weeks of park exploration with the backpack. You must have a Lynchburg card and be over 18 to check out a nature backpack.

Get a close up look at the constellations, planets, and meteors for two weeks when you check out our telescope. You must be over 18 years old and have a Lynchburg, Bedford County, or Campbell County card to check it out. The telescope can only be checked out from Lynchburg Main Library. Bedford and Campbell Counties also have telescopes that can be checked out from their respective locations.

The Nature Zone

The Nature Zone is an environmental education center that offers a world of fun and excitement for all ages! Each of their carefully selected displays are focused on our local watershed and homes for the Nature Zone animals. They also offer Discovery Drawers for visitors to explore. They are FREE and open to the public. Located a short walk or drive from the Library, the Nature Zone is located on the first floor of the beautiful, historic Miller Center at Miller Park (301 Grove Street Lynchburg, VA 24501).
