Public Computers: We have 20 public access computers available to use during regular library hours. There are four youth computers and a parent/child computer available in the Youth department. They all have Internet access and Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher installed. Use your library card to log in or ask for a guest pass at the Reference Desk.
Chromebooks: Chromebooks are available for in-library use. Borrowers must be over 18 years olds and have a Lynchburg library card in good standing. The borrower must present a valid driver’s license or state issued I.D. card. The I.D. will be held at the Adult Services desk until the Chromebook is returned and checked in by Library Staff. Checkouts are limited to two hours per day.
Scanning: Scanning is available at the Reference Desk. We recommend bringing a personal USB drive on which to save your document. If you do not have one, we have some staff USB drives that can be borrowed but must stay in the building. Scanning is $1.00 per bundle.
Printing: Printing is available from all public computers. Wireless printing is also available. Black and white copies are $.15 per page; color is $.50 per page.
Copying: Copies are $.15 per page. Copies can be made on regular, legal, and ledger sizes. Double-sided copies can be made at the Downtown Branch library.
Copyright law governs the reproduction of materials. Users of the copy machines are responsible for following copyright law.
Faxing: Faxing is $1.00 per transaction. Cover sheets are optional. Time sheets are free. We can only send faxes, we cannot receive them.
Wi-fi: Wireless Internet access is available in the whole building. No password is required. If your device does not automatically connect to it, please ask the Reference Desk for help.
While using the library’s wireless, please remember that under U.S. Copyright Law, Title 17, Section 106(3)-(4), it is ILLEGAL to download or share copyrighted materials such as music, movies, or TV shows to your personal device or the library’s computers without the consent of the copyright owner. This includes Peer-to-Peer file sharing, such as BitTorrent, as well as other file sharing or downloading software. Illegally downloading materials as listed above can result in being blocked from internet access and reported. When caught illegally downloading or sharing these files, legal penalties can be severe.
Quiet Study Room: We have one quiet study room with a two person maximum available for use. The room can be used for up to two hours at a time. Reservations may be made in person at the Main Library Reference Desk or call 434-455-6310. The room may be reserved for up to three (3) non-consecutive days per calendar week. Reservations can be made up to one week ahead for the following calendar week. Reservations will be held for 15 minutes past the reservation time before the room is released to another user.
Book Sale: We have a section of books for sale near our newspapers in the front of the library. That area is a great resource if you’re looking for inexpensive books. There are often magazines and movies for sale there in addition to books for adults and children. Prices vary by material type. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Lynchburg Public Library.
